Restaurant Information
Shinbashi Restaurant was started back in 1974 by Mrs. Fumiko Hosoda, and it still remains family owned. Shinbashi Restaurant was first introduced to bring decadence and originality of Japanese cuisine to the west. Shinbashi, defined as New Bridge in Japanese, not only bridges East and West, but old and new.
We may accommodate an intimate, memorable meal or a private party with our extensive sushi bar and our three-floor space; the main dining area, a lower level Bar/Lounge and Mezzanine on the upper level.

Shinbashi offers great Japanese food and some of the freshest traditional sushi, sashimi and Udon I've ever had in NYC. The service is great and they also accommodate children.

Note that there is new management and staff in recent years... I wish I worked close enough for lunch takeout! I always enjoy the food at dinner. Some of the tastiest sushi I've ever had. And I saw Hideki Matsui at the sushi bar there one night!

Excellent service! The waiter actually helps you boil everything in the hot pot on the table, and arranges them evenly to each person on the table. We came to usa for almost a month and this is the first time we feel like being properly served! So I ask my husband to tip the waiter in the mostly generous way, because he deserves it. The food is very tasty too. Highly recommended to everyone who wants a decent meal and service.

Few, if any negatives about this place at first blush. I was there for a business lunch, one of many many tables at the time doing the same. All good here. People with budgets want good stuff and this place was full at lunch time. Also, delicious food and world-class service were obvious from the jump. Just really fantastic.

Ate solo as on business. Felt comfortable at the bar and was well looked after. $22 got me a large mixed sushi plate. Real sushi made to order, in sight of the restaurant tables good

This Japanese restaurant, located in the busy mid-town, caters to office workers for their lunches. However, the restaurant is open for dinners as well. Less busy and beaming with serenity, dinner time is my favorite time to enjoy Shinbashi and their food.

Sushi was good but quite small pieces. Service was rushed at lunch.

I was hesitant to try this place due to their recent reviews, but I'm glad I did. Ended up sitting outside. Construction across the street can get incredibly loud and distracting, but otherwise, sushi and sashimi were fantastic and incredibly fresh. I believe the reviewer below is speaking of their sushi sashimi sets which clearly state "no subsitutions" on the menu, so it shouldn't have been so "astonishing". It seems they do have a la carte options and you can mix and match as you please, which is what we did. Made another reservation for next week, and can't wait to come back.

We were the first guests. Very polite service. Prompt replies to our requests. Sushi was excellent and they even gave us a free sample before dinner as well as brought out our meal in 2 stages so we had time to enjoy each. Bravo.

Blue Fish (across the street) and Sake Sushi have both consistently delivered on freshness, taste, and service.

Food very good attention very serious as good Japanese what I did not seem to hurry you to eat because they want to close and you are saying that you can not serve more drinks and neither the dessert, should say what is really the schedule Attention

Went here with a few coworkers for lunch and had some of the best sushi in the city to date. Fantastic service. Quality food. Enjoyable environment. Would absolutely return!

Easily the best Japanese food I have had in NYC. Beautiful space, with attentive staff. The futomaki is a must have on the restaurant side. I take friends and colleagues to the cafe during lunch, and love showing off their wappameshi.

Very nice sushi in a central location. We enjoyed the food. The service was just OK, not great - our waiter gave us a bit of attitude about asking for three things at once - but the quality basically made up for it.Very nice sushi platters and salads. The menu was a little tricky, as they had multiplr thungs that sounded similar and it was hard to know what would be best. But overall, very good.

This was definitely the best Japanese food I've had in a very long time. It is authentic and innovative. The atmosphere is upscale-casual with an outdoor seating area. It is modern without being overwhelming or pretentious. We started with the grilled eggplant, tofu paste, shrimp fried dumplings and then Sushi Pizza. The eggplant was smooth, soft and tender with a lovely miso coating on the top. The eggplant melted in my mouth and was so flavorful. The tofu was actually sesame seeds molded into a paste in a light soy broth. It was creamy and smooth and something I've never had before but hope to have once again. The shrimp dumplings were light and not greasy. However, the star of the show was the sushi Pizza. The crust was rice and had a crisp Edge to it and was topped with tuna and salmon sashimi. A spicy mayo topped that along with some thin crispy noodles and a hoisin sauce. I've never had something so indulgent and innovative as far as sushi. I will be thinking of this place for a very long time and hope to return on my next trip. Honestly, if you're in the neighborhood or traveling to NYC, this is the place to go. It is Well price, fresh, clean and definitely worth trip!
